Grammar, Usage, Mechanics, Poetry
(GUMP)
GUMP is a short companion course that teaches students to understand the structure and beauty of English through their own observation and regular writing practice. Every class will have a short grammar lesson with exercises, a studied dictation from literature, and a time to share and discuss poetry.
GUMP I
This course is made for middle school students or high school students who need to study basic grammar and language arts.
Class Format
Small Group Class (6 students max)
Weekly 40 minute class online via Webex.
Each session includes:
Homework
30 minutes every week:
Keep a Commonplace journal. Add quotes & poems every week to the journal and share them in class. Entries must be written with good penmanship.
Complete written exercises or dictations assigned weekly.

Schedule: Fridays 11:00 – 11:40 AM (Central Standard Time)
Three 11-week terms (Fall, Winter, Spring)
Platform: Webex Meet + Student Hub on Notion
Tuition: $60 per term OR $180 per year
GUMP II
This course is for high school students who are familiar with basic grammar and are ready for a challenge.
Class Format
Small Group Class (6 students max)
Weekly 40 minute class online via Webex.
Each session includes:
Lessons and exercises from A New Grammar of the English Tongue by John Miller Dow Meiklejohn
Weekly Studied Dictation — selections approximately 1 page
Poetry Reading & Study
